Join us for a hands-on evening of learning how to dry fruit in season to be used all throughout the year. Terrie Irish of Summer in a Jar will be giving us a demonstration on drying fruit. Come with your questions and be prepared to see this process in action. And yes, even though this is a fruit club, she’ll touch on drying veggies as well.
Terrie Irish has over 30 years of practical experience with home canning and has completed formal training in home food preservation. She is currently partnering with Jubilee Biodynamic Farm outside of Carnation in the Snoqualmie Valley in their prep kitchen, offering CSA members ideas and cooking methods for the coming week’s produce. At Summer In A Jar, she teaches safe food preservation methods including canning, drying, freezing, quick pickling and fermentation. She teaches how to put up a current seasonal crop so it is available in the winter and how to use it in workable menus when those times come around. Terrie is also involved in “KidsCooK”, a non profit program out of Carnation, WA which teaches fifth grade kids how to cook tasty, whole, nutritious and affordable real food.
The meeting starts at 7 pm at the Boys and Girls Club of Snohomish, 402 2nd St, Snohomish, WA 98290. A brief business meeting will precede the presentation. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is invited. For further information, call (425) 398-5544.
